Fall? I don't think so.

And the 100's continue to plague our forecast. Not only that, we still have yet to see a drop of rain on the Clover. There has been rain all around us for the past week, but sadly our little garden spot has remained dry.

All's Quiet on the Ranch Front

What do you do on a piece of ground that is desperately waiting out the worst drought in the history of this area? Well, you can spend hours dragging hose to trees that are just hanging on. Or, you could sprinkle off your animals with water morning and night so they don't overheat as they withstand 100 degree days. Or, you could stay up nights wondering why your chickens have stopped laying eggs.

But, when you are done with all that and you have some time, you could read.

We've had a lovely cold front blow in this week taking our day highs to the mid 90's. Which doesn't sound great, but when you consider that is 15 degrees cooler than it has been, it's significant. Not only that, but the night lows have been in the upper 50's to low 60's! That is about 30 degrees cooler than we've had lately.

The windows are open day and night. As are all the screen doors. And I have to say, fall on the ranch is going to be spectacular! I love the breeze that blows my wind chimes. And I love the smell of cool air as it circles through the house. It's invigorating! Suddenly, I feel as though I've gotten all my energy back!

But I digress. I was posting to highlight a book I've just started reading. A friend of mine borrowed it to me about a week ago. For some reason she said it "reminder her of me."

Honestly, it's like the author is describing my life. Only on a much grander scale. What is this book? It's called The Dirty Life and I can't get enough of it lately! Talk about a page turner. (And that is a term I usually reserve only for horror, suspense, or thriller books!)



This little weather tease and peek into life on a functioning farm has me inspired! I can't wait until the drought and destruction have passed and we can focus on the rebuilding stage. Buffalo Clover has so much potential! I need to start on my garden - and I need a cow so I can make my own cheese and have milk on demand. And I still want that mini donkey! Sigh.

Now all I need is rain and about 14 thousand yards of top soil!
